Distribute Chapter 7-8 Study Guide
Define and discuss new literary terms: “cliffhanger” (mark annotation at end of Chapter 7/ page 99); “dialogue”, “comic relief” and “dramatic irony”
Discuss:
examples of dramatic irony (i.e. scary movies when the niave girl goes upstairs but the audience knows that’s where the ‘bad guy’ is hiding),
author’s purpose for using dialogue
whether students enjoy or dislike cliffhangers (and why)
review types of Point of View (1st person; 2nd person; 3rd person omniscient and 3rd person limited)
Begin listening to Chapter 7 using CD in class—finish for homework, if necessary
Distribute Chpt 7 Reading Check: POV assignment.—complete for homework.

Finish reading Chapter 7 of The Watsons go to Birmingham—1963
